3/11/08 – The Mohegan Sun one
Erik’s back in the big chair, starting things off with a report (and the obligatory Erik paper shuffle) that the Pats could be interested in trading for Pacman Jones. The guys, sans Fred, all agree that the Pats would make a mistake to bring the malcontent in to Foxboro, but also agree that the Pats have always considered all players, despite the “PR creation” to the contrary. Talk then moves to free agency, and reports that the Pats were interested in restricted free agent linebacker Adam Seward, and how the Pats’ situation at linebacker figures into that possible move. Then it’s on to draft talk and possible wide receiver prospects for the Pats – including a theory from draft guru Tom that the only reason people like Colt McCoy is because he is named Colt instead of Mike. With a shift in discussion to ESPN’s series Playmakers, which was pressured by the NFL into cancellation in 2003, Erik questioned Andy on whether the revelation that one of the characters was gay made him uncomfortable – to which Andy responded that the odds are someone in the studio was gay, and everyone knew who it most likely was.
Then, in a complete 180, Tom questioned why anyone would want to pay $30,000 for a nude photo of Gisele. So we know what Tom does in his free time, but meanwhile, Paul recounts his weekend trip to Richmond, Virginia, where he spent about 20 hours just getting to and from there for a CAA basketball tournament. Paul is questioned on whether he was, well, seeing anyone on his way down there, leading Tom, whose New York knows a bit about client #9, to state that “a lot of guys do it” and that’d he’d try it too if he was rich.
After the break, the guys got into a discussion on whether the “big nickel” (three safeties) package could be a possibility in 2008 – which Andy and Tom thought wouldn’t be a good idea – ditto for the Tampa 2, although they agreed such players are easier to find. After some more draft talk, it was on to a report that the NFL was close to a deal with Matt Walsh, as well as a Bob Hohler piece that seemed to discredit the idea – but Paul still believed it was a cover-up to prevent Belichick from naming other names. It was then back to draft talk, then Jabar Gaffney’s re-signing with the team – all the while, Tom predicts each play of Super Bowl XXX (Cowboys/Steelers) playing on the studio TV. That leads to talk of the NFL Network, which Tom thinks is mismanaged and the content “not that good.” – but there is also news of layoffs at NFL Films and the cancellation of Inside the NFL. Finally, with Erik out of e-mails, Andy told a story of his landscaper recognizing Andy as “that guy on the TV show…the Mohegan Sun one.”
